MS SQL Server text fields special chars trouble ()

when trying to insert/update text to a text field in a db on ms sql server, special chars are lost (replaced by other ones). i don't think that's some kind of encoding cause some different symbols are encoded to the same symbol, i.e. both "" and "" are *encoded* to "-", and both "" and "" are encoded to "+", so i couldn't even create a function myself to decode that.
anybody been thru this before?
anyone knows why does microsoft still exists?
