 TLS with LDAP

I've tried over and over to use the "ldap_start_tls()" function. I've switched the protocol to version 3, as you need to to run TLS on LDAP, but every time I run it, I get this error:

"Warning: LDAP: Unable to start TLS: Connect error in [File] on line [Linenumber]"

The ldap server has TLS enabled. Does anyone know how to start TLS or SSL with php snd ldap?
